As Katie noted, I was under the weather most of the week. It was probably stress induced. Started Saturday before she got here, but really hit me on Tuesday. By Friday I was feeling almost 100%.
Overall it was a good week despite the weather, feeling under the weather, and the Navy's best attempts to make things difficult. I should have taken leave and we probably would have had a lot more fun in Hawaii. But we'll probably never get a chance to experience Korea again.
This week was back to the usual "what are we (the U.S. Navy) doing here?" routine at work. Had an afternoon brief and subsequent late afternoon discussion with our admiral yesterday. This is the project I'm working on right now. The phrase 'self-licking ice cream cone' is being used frequently to describe our presence here. Thing about that one for a second.
Some relatively exciting news for me, though: I received my mobilization orders on Thursday. No surprises: report Friday, 5 September to Sacramento and then 8 September to San Diego. This happens to be a regular drill weekend for us in Sacramento, so there's two birds with one stone. As a result, I just changed my itinerary to come back one day early, 30 August. Hoping to go up to Maine the following Monday and Tuesday. Then back to repack for my three months in San Diego. Katie and I are tentatively planning a long weekend to Mammoth in November or December before I leave for the Middle East. Hopefully meet up with my old Mammoth roommate/tenant Cindy and her husband Jeremy, who just moved to Las Vegas for some early season skiing.
Also on Thursday I got accepted into the MBA program at UConn. Interesting timing. So now I have to let them know that I'd like to defer for one year.
I also started routing the paperwork for a return to active duty. Not sure what my chances are, but it's pretty much the last opportunity. If I get accepted, I will most likely redesignate into the new Human Resources community (1207).
Since it seems like 'bring your screaming kid to the cafe day' I'm going to sign off now. Have to go get my laundry and then do some Christmas shopping!
Oh, one more thing, here's the image on the coins I had made for my unit:
