Week #15 - Operations

This past week we kind of hit our stride. Everyone is getting into the grove of operating here in Kuwait.

I got to do a few fun things. Went to Camp Arifjan early in the week with our Commodore. I wanted to meet with the Army over there about awards, emergency leave procedures, protocol, and whatever else I had time for. Myself and another officer also ran errands while the boss was tied up in a brief. Afterwards we sampled the mess at The Oasis and got use real silverware instead of the plastic stuff we have here.

It was my second time at Arifjan in three days or so. My roommate, Rob, and I went over to go shopping last weekend. So I've just about figured out all the procedures for getting there and back. It's pretty complicated, though. Lots of extra stuff to go through, like checking out a vehicle, checking out a weapon, a copy of your off-base travel letter (which my guys print out every week), and various other pieces of paperwork. And every time you go through a checkpoint, you have to get out and 'clear' your weapon. Getting pretty good at that. And this week I finally got my 'TASK' license. It actually stands for something-Kuwait. Basically your government drivers license, special for driving in Kuwait.

Other than that lots of meetings and standing watch. And getting my department running smoothly. It hasn't been easy but we're starting to make progress.

Had steak and shrimp on Wednesay. I could have chosen lobster, but I'm more of a shrimp and scallops guy. And I've been having ice cream shakes every night. Baskin Robbins. Mmmm!

Katie and I have finally ironed out some good times to call. Unfortunately the phone connections are not the greatest, and there seems to be a couple second delay. So occasionally Katie just goes on a on and I can't get a word in edgewise :)

Speaking of Katie, here's a photo she sent. I'm still not sure what she's wearing, can anyone help me out?

It's the week of Christmas and Hanakah I think. So happy holidays to everyone! And for me, a good night :)
