MLB All Star Game

St. Louis, Gateway to the West! And host of the 2009 Major League Baseball summer classic. Katie was working the game for ESPN. I let her get a couple days head start. I used those two days to finish up some things are home and then spend a day in Ohio (and an unplanned night in Detroit) visiting family on the way out.

The All Star Game was pretty fun. I should clarify up front: We didn't stay for the actual All Star Game. Fox had the game itself, so ESPN and therefore Katie only had to work the futures (minor league) game, the celebrity softball game, and the home run derby. My visit to Ohio kind of got moved back a day (thanks, airlines!) so I was just getting there on Sunday afternoon. But a massive rain delay pushed the game back enough for me to actually see most of it. Katie came down from the booth for a quick picture, then left me to eat and drink whatever I wanted to, which I did!

The home run derby on Monday was pretty much a blast. Katie's manager once again came through with tickets, this time in the left field bleachers. Well, let me tell you, there are worse places to be during a home run derby. If I was maybe 10 or 15 rows closer it would have been better, but still it was cool. I was right underneath one of the three "hit it here" signs that were worth a million dollars. I don't think the hitters paid much attention to these. One of the left handers hit a few into the Big Mac area, next to one of the signs, but otherwise I think they were just trying to hit 'em out.

The entire stadium completely filled up with Cardinals fans.

The closest, or maybe only, American flag was right behind me, and a couple of Navy F-18s did a fly-by to kick things off. I wasn't very quick on the draw for the fly-by, but here's the flag.

The last day Katie-bop and I had some time before leaving for the airport, so we checked out the Arch, which was right by the hotel. Words can't really describe, so here's some more photos!
