Honeymoon Day 6

The snow started falling last night and we awoke to a steady stream of white flakes dropping from the sky. 4-8 inches was the prediction for the day, a modest amount, but still awesome news for us powderhounds. Eager to get first tracks, we hopped on the gondola at 8:45, knowing that first chair was at 9am. Well, it turns out we were a little too eager...apparently the early bird DOES NOT get the worm at Telluride, as we approached the "angle station" near chair 8 and were surprisingly told that we could not get off the gondola here until the chairs actually started. "Not open for skiing yet" or something to that affect. Telluride has this 3-stage "Free Gondola" that they use to both bring you up the hill, and shuttle people from town to mountain village. It basically takes the place of city buses and the like. So we continued into the mountain village and grabbed some coffee. On the way back up we shared a gondola with a local taking his dog out for a walk. That's a first


And what a day it was! The prediction of 4-8 inches was probably surpassed before 10:30, as it started puking when we got on the gondola and it didnt let up the entire day. We stayed close to home, skiing chairs 6 and 9. Every run was a powderfest and face shots were in abundance. Once again, we beat ourselves up and collapsed back at the hotel.


Mike hit the hot tub afterwards. It's his favorite kind, outdoors. With all the snow it was kind of interesting. At first he kept his eyes closed, but then he realized it was OK to keep them open. Watching the snowflakes hit the water surface, melt, and sink was pretty cool, says Mike.

Later, we went out for a delicious sushi dinner and then back to our room for a nightcap of SportsCenter and the weather channel. Tomorrow is our last day on the slopes and we are praying to the snowgods for more pow-pow to cap our perfect honeymoon vacation.
